Abstract

Carburization is a commonly used case hardening process that enhances functional properties of gears, bearings, shafts, and so on without sacrificing mechanical properties at its core. The different phases (ferrite, pearlite, bainite, and martensite) that are transformed through heat treatment are affected by cooling rate and chemical composition.
