Abstract
Kutch, a district in the northwestern corner of Gujarat, is a land shaped by extremes of climate, terrain, and creativity. Bordered by the Arabian Sea and the Great Rann, its semi-arid expanse may seem barren at first glance, yet it holds one of the richest traditions of craft and indigenous knowledge systems in India. The rhythm of life here follows both nature’s cycle and the cycle of making. In every village, craft is not a separate profession; it is culture, memory, and identity in motion. Weaving, pottery, bandhani, metalwork, leathercraft, lacquer, and embroidery thrive not in museums but in everyday homes, where knowledge is passed down through practice and participation.
